The peaceful surrounding of this lake is the most amazing and exciting experience. Another amazing lake in this region is the Tso Moriri Lake, which is located 6 to 7 hours drive from Leh. Leh Ladakh is considered as one of the best trekking spots in the country, with some of the best trekking routes. Buddhist Monasteries and Gompas

Leh Ladakh is an important center for the followers of Buddhist religion as it has some well known monasteries and gompas. It has more than 35 monasteries, which run on hefty donations by tourists as well as locals. Diskit Gompa near Nubra Valley is one of the largest and oldest gompas, reaching a height of 32 m. another amcient sacred shrine of Buddhism in Leh is the Shanti Stupa, a monument built to commemorate 2500 years of the Buddhist religion. Among the Buddhist monasteries, Thikse monastery is one of the most important in this region. It features a majestic 15 m tall statue of the Buddha, sitting in an unusual lotus position. Another important Buddhist monastery is the Shey Monastery, which has a metallic statue of the Buddha. It dates back to 1655 and was used as a place of stay by the kings during the summer season.

Besides all these attractions, some other notable destinations in Leh Ladakh include Padum, Rangdum, Zangsar, Salt Valley, Drass Valley, Chiktan Palace and Leh Palace.
